Here he received his primary and secondary education and became interested in music. He took part in his first concert while a teenager and in 1976, he made his recording debut as a backup singer with the Mario Ortiz Orchestra. He remained with the orchestra for two years, during which time he met Elias Lopez who helped to mold and polish him as a singer. Singing career During the 1980s, he recorded Homenaje a Eddie Palmieri (Tribute to the Messiah (Eddie Palmieri)) with the Puerto Rican All Stars. He also recorded with various orchestras, amongst them the Tommy Olivencia Orchestra, and the Willie Rosario orchestra. In other words Santa Rosa developed a unique style of “soneo” (improvisation). Salsa that permitted him to be successful in both the “tropical” and “romantic” styles of the music. In 1986, Santa Rosa formed his own band and signed with Combo Records Above all a string of hits followed, such as “Good Vibrations”, “De amor y salsa” (Of Love and Salsa), “Punto de vista” (Point of View), “Vivir sin ella” (Living without Her) and “Perspectiva”. Santa Rosa was also the first singer of tropical salsa to carry out a concert at the Carnegie Hall Theater, in New York City, where he performed as the opening number, his unique version of the salsa tune, “Represento” (I Represent), composed by Lou Briel. Therefore this event was recorded live at the hall, and later released as an album. A highlight of the night was the four-minute unscripted addition he made to his song “Perdoname” (Forgive Me), which solidified his improvisational talent. For instance this live version became such a sensation thereafter that Santa Rosa had to memorize his own improvised lines for future concerts. He Perdoname became the closing song to his shows. In 1990, Santa Rosa joined the all star “La Puertorriqueña project which included Andy Montañez; in the same year he was awarded the Billboard Lo Nuestro Award for Best Male Singer. He also participated in the play La pareja dispareja (The Odd Couple) alongside Luis Vigoreaux and Rafo Muñiz. In 1996, the greatest hits album Caballero de la Salsa, Vol 2 was released and he also participated in the First “Festival Presidente” in the Dominican Republic (a Latin music festival sponsored by local Presidente beer). In conclusion he sang with Andy Montañez in New York City Lincoln Center and later that year, with Olga Tañón at the Universal Studios Amphitheater in Hollywood, California. Toño Rosario (Dallas)

Toño Rosario (Dallas)

Toño-Rosario-Dallas THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 at 9 PM Toño-Rosario-Dallas Toño Rosario (Dallas) is best known for his Merengue numbers. As a member of Los Hermanos Rosario, Rosario has been a key figure in popularizing Merengue music, with hits reaching the top of the Billboard Latin charts and the top of charts in Europe. Rosario is the top selling Merengue artist of all time. The three-time Grammy nominee has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. From young, they recall finding whatever instruments they could in household items since they were born in poverty and could not afford real musical instruments. After the death of their brother Pepe, Toño and Rafa took the lead in the band with Toño as the main singer due to his unique and highly recognized voice. He debuted on April 14, 1990, in the “Roberto Clemente” Coliseum of Puerto Rico. He went on to become the most popular merengue singer with some of his albums reaching diamond status. Toño’s song “Alegría” was played at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan whenever former Detroit Tigers utility infielder Omar Infante came to bat. Toño Rosario has the best selling merengue album of all time, Quiero Volver a Empezar, which was his debut on WEA International in 1996. Rosario is a minority owner/limited partner of the Miami Dolphins NFL team. Rosario was the first solo merengue act to ever sell out Madison Square Garden. In 2018, his song “Kulikitaka” became an internet sensation in the southern Indian Member State of Kerala. It became very famous and was used in numerous stage shows, video albums and even in the most famous Malayalam web series Karikku’s Thera Para. In Kerala it became famous as an African song and not as a Latin song because of a video that circulated in Whatsapp. Even small restaurants started getting named after the song in Kerala. Toño Rosario (Dallas) married Marilyn Brenes in 1983, at Marriage Palace, in New York City. The legendary Puerto Rican band popularly known as El Gran Combo played their first gig in San Juan in 1962 and soon became the island’s most popular salsa group. Many bands formed and dissolved in the 60s & 70s, El Gran Combo with unusual staying power. Throughout the next several decades, the band’s style altered and evolved to fit Latin dance-music trends, from boogaloo and merengue to tango and bomba. While an influx of talented young singers and musicians kept the 12- or 13-member band sounding fresh, the steady presence of a few founding members—including the pianist-songwriter Rafael Ithier—gave El Gran Combo their signature style and their venerable reputation as a premier salsa band.
